Ronil Beach Hotel
The restaurant of this hotel offers excellent food both lunchtime and evening. With the tables set out around the swimming pool it makes for a very pleasant atmosphere in the evenings. Most nights there is a local group which perform for the diners. It has an excellent menu with a wide selection of dishes all superb!
Indian Impact
This restaurant is just a short stroll from the Ronil Beach Hotel and offers some of the finest food you could wish to sample here in Goa. Like all Goan restaurants the food takes some time to arrive, this is because it is all prepared freshly. A walk past the kitchen window on the way to the toilet and you will see a veritable army of cooks busily at work in the kitchen. Take your postcards along to while away the time while you write them. The chicken biryani is fabulous while the tandoori King Fish is fit for royalty, make sure you have a good appetite as it is usually quite a large fish. It may even satisfy 2 people with accompanying dishes. Spare a thought for the Tandoori Chef as he works over the intense heat of the tandoori oven. They have traditional Indian dancing on Tuesday nights book early if you wish to attend.
There was talk of them opening a sister establishment in Callengute so keep an eye out for this one.
Casa Goana
A little further along the road in the direction of Callengute is this superb restaurant. A superb menu offering a wide choice of dishes all excellent. Try the vindaloo, it will not be anything like the dish you get in Indian restaurants at home. For something special why not try their tandoori lobster!
For both our holidays to Goa my wife and I eat at one of the above establishments most nights of our stay and have suffered no ill effects.
There are plenty of places to eat and the majority are perfectly safe just use your judgment.
Some advice for those not sure of what to do when visiting Goa.
Only drink out of sealed bottles and that includes the water you use when brushing your teeth. Avoid salads if you are unsure of them, the salads in the Ronil Beach seemed to cause no problems but salads can be the cause of many a tummy upset. Do not eat fruit unless you can peel it, as you do not know what might be on the skin. Follow these very simple rules and you should come to no grief.
It is worth remembering that during the day it gets quite hot in Goa and you will need to make sure you drink sufficient bottled water to counteract the dehydration. Remember alcohol increases your dehydration so drink more water.
At night it can get appreciably chilly, which is good for the Mangoes apparently as they need the cold to mature properly, but not so good for us so you might want to pack a warm top for the evening.
